
Making Bathroom Heaters Warm, Not Blinding
Most bathroom heat lamps use short-wave infrared to get you warm the second you flip the switch. It works great, but there’s a catch: the glare. It’s harsh. And if you’ve got a baby in the house, that kind of intense light is way too much for their developing eyes. We figured out a way to fix that by tweaking how the light behaves and how the lamp is built.
Keeping the Heat, Losing the Glare
Standard halogen tubes throw out a ton of visible light along with the heat. To stop that “staring into the sun” feeling, we use specialized quartz glass with a specific coating. Think of it as a filter. It blocks out the aggressive blue light and the blinding glare, but lets the infrared heat waves slide right through. The result? The light feels softer and warmer. You still get that blast of heat needed to survive a freezing winter morning, but your eyes don’t feel like they’re under attack.
Dealing with Steam and Splashes
Bathrooms are basically torture chambers for electronics. Between the thick steam and the accidental splashes, things usually short out or burn out way too fast. To stop that, we seal everything up with high-temperature silicone gaskets and tempered glass. Inside, the heating element sits in a quartz envelope that can handle expanding and shrinking as it heats up and cools down. We also reinforced the chassis so moisture can’t sneak its way into the electrical terminals. It just stays dry.
The Balancing Act
Here’s the thing: high-wattage lamps get incredibly hot. Even though we’ve filtered the light to be safe for your eyes, the actual surface of the lamp is still scorching. That’s why a solid safety guard is a must. You don’t want anyone accidentally touching the glass. Plus, you have to be careful with the wattage. If you cram too much power into a tiny fixture, you might actually warp the plastic trim on your ceiling. It’s all about finding that sweet spot between the size of the fixture and the power of the lamp so nothing overheats.
