Stop Fighting Bathroom Mold: The Secret is in the Heat
Most people think a heated bathroom mirror is just about keeping your face warm while you brush your teeth. But if you look under the hood, it’s actually a clever bit of science. We didn’t just build these to make the room cozy; we built them to kill the dampness that mold loves.
Why your walls stay damp
Here is the thing about mold: it loves those cold, stagnant spots in your bathroom. You know the ones—the corners of the ceiling or the grout lines that never seem to dry. Standard heaters just warm up the air. The problem is, that warm air often hits a cold tile and turns right back into condensation. It’s a cycle that never ends. Our infrared heaters work differently. Instead of heating the air, they go straight for the surface. They send out shortwave radiation that makes the water molecules on your walls vibrate and evaporate fast. It basically “shocks” the moisture out of your cold spots, leaving the surface bone-dry. And since mold can’t grow on a dry wall, your problem is solved.
The nitty-gritty stuff
We use high-purity quartz tubes for these. Why? Because we need the heat to be consistent and, more importantly, instant. There’s no waiting around for a coil to glow red. You flip the switch, and the heat is there. Because bathrooms are basically steam rooms, we’ve made the seals airtight. If a tiny bit of moisture gets inside to the tungsten filament, the whole lamp pops. We’ve made sure that doesn’t happen.
A few things to keep in mind
Now, this heat is intense. It’s great for drying, but it’s concentrated. You can’t just stick these anywhere. If you mount one too close to a plastic fixture or some cheap acrylic, you’re probably going to warp the material. Give it at least 300mm of breathing room from anything that might melt. And a pro tip: don’t leave them running all day. It’s a waste of electricity and it’ll wear out the tubes faster. I recommend wiring them into a timer. Set them to run for about 15 minutes after you hop out of the shower. That’s all the time they need to strip the moisture out of the room and keep things fresh.
